Italian Job: Chapter 3
Pisa : Naval Supremacy
Campo dei Miracoli
We left Florence satisfied. We truly enjoyed its feast of arts and history and not forgetting my very first of authentic Prada Item. We bought a Regionale train ticket to Pisa for 6Euro. Pisa wasn’t originally included in our itinerary, but since it is so close to Florence, we have decided to check this one time superior maritime power. The train will not leave until 2.30pm. We still have 30minutes for lunch.
When in Italy, do like the Italian do. So we ate pizza. We have been eating pizza a lot since we landed in Italy. We just love the taste of pizza here. Our favourite is Margherita. This simple pizza only contains cheese and tomato as its topping. It tastes so good despite its simplicity.
The meal we ordered came with desert, so we chat and dine like civilised people, losing our eye on the time. Then we realised it was 2.30 already. Remember, trains in Italy leave on the dot. So we missed our train and have to catch the next one at 3.00pm
This regional train stops at all stations along the way to Pisa, so it took 2 hours to complete a mere 90km journey. It was almost dark by the time we reach Pisa. We were thinking to climb the tower. It will close in 30 minutes. So what we thought as a short walk from the station was actually a long hike. It must be around 3km from the station.
But it worth the effort. We simply couldn’t take our eyes off the tower which is one of the world’s wonders. The tower that was intended as a campanile to the duomo now is the main attraction to this city. Its apparent flouting of the laws of gravity has attracted many visitors over the centuries including the Pisan scientist Galileo, who conducted his experiments on velocity of falling objects from the top of the tower.
No we didn’t climb the tower.
Next Destination… Milan
